Before the Lack TV Bench was released I had been using a Lack coffee table to hold my TV. Over time the shelf below the table warped from the weight of my entertainment equiptment. After I bought the TV Bench I found that I did not use the coffee table very often - only when I have friends over. The rest of the time I prefer to have more space on my floor.

I pulled the coffee table apart - this was a little hard as, to get the legs lined up correctly, they had been screwed in very tight. The double ended screws would not come out so I used a metal file to make two straight sides on the screws and then used an adjustable wrench to remove them. It took 2 days and a variety of attempts to arrive at this solution so I thought I would mention it.

I purchased two Ekby Laiva 59cm x 24cm shelves at $4.99 each. I drilled 3 holes in each corner of the shelves and nailed them to the legs. There is an unfinished edge on the shelves so I made sure they faced the same way. There is also a bevel on the bottom of the legs, so they will not fit flush with the shelf at one end. This was fine for my purposes.

The finished side table is about 1cm shorter and 4cm longer than a normal Lack side table. It sits beside my sofa and is perfect for holding a lamp and a drink.

I attached 2 offcuts of wood to the underside of the leftover tabletop. These stop the top from moving around when I transform my side table into a low coffee table. The finished low table is 29cm tall.

When not in use I can store the tabletop underneath my sofa.

On a slightly more important note.

There is an online petition against the Government's mandatory Internet filtering policy:
http://www.efa.org.au/2010/01/18/senate-internet-censorship-petition/

Also, there will be a protest day coming up soon, either on the 31st of Jan or the 6th of Feb:

@notebookco tells me that today is the last day of greatly reduced Moleskine prices at http://www.notebookco.com.au/moleskine-store.html (his moleskine store).

Edit: Wow, some of them are 25% off.
